May the clear light of awakened mind become apparent. May each person sing an affirmtion of the inherent beauty. May the mind that unites all beings be recognized as the foundation of our shared existence in the family of humanity
-From "Voices Of Our Ancestors" CHEROKEE WORDS OF WISDOM. Working with color photographic images, has presented one difficult problem, how to make art that is archival. I love the alt process printing techniques and have had the opportunity to learn from some of the best printers in America. However, I am not a Black and White artist, my work needs to be printed in color. I know it is widely acceptable to make Giclee prints for gallery sales. But how to put a lasting value on this product when in the best case they will fade in a matter of 50 years. And in strong lighting even faster. So after the APIS seminar in New Mexico last year I heard about the Color Carbon Process. And I am not talking about the new inks that are being used in Giclee printing, yes they are better, but no they are not archival and I wish they wouldn't call them carbon prints. Actual wet lab carbon printing in color is done by only two companies in the world. The oldest and most established printing company is in France; the Fresson Family has guarded their secret of making these carbon prints for generations. The colors are true and subtle. It takes at least 3 days to make one print, and they are completely archival they will not fade or degrade (for a 1000 years, but don't ask me how they know that!) These are museum quality prints. I have had five Freesson prints made, which are now framed and are ready for gallery representation, some are shown here. They are 33' X 40". In addition, any of my images can be carbon printed.
